Tucked away in a tranquil, hidden corner on Corfu's gorgeous north-east coastline the translucent waters and pebbled shoreline of Avlaki Beach proudly display a coveted Blue Flag for quality and facilities yet the place barely registers on many island maps! This, we think is a good thing. With sunloungers, umbrellas, a sailing and windsurfing school as well as two highly regarded tavernas situated on either side of the beach Avlaki is one of those hard to find spots that only the locals ever seem to know about and where, once arrived, you will likely not want to go anywhere else. For us the thought of taking the 700m stroll down to the beach to enjoy a lazy swim, followed by a doze in the sun and a lunch/dinner consisting of a crisp Greek salad, fresh grilled fish with maybe a glass or two of local wine is temptation enough!


This grand three storey villa with pale yellow tiers graduating upwards, domed windows and eye-catching archways has a truly impressive façade. A large swimming pool sits to the front of the property with impressive vistas spreading out from the terraces across a dense pine forest to the tantalizing Ionian Sea.

Entering Federika the tranquil ambience begins to work its spell. The ground floor living and dining area has a modern contemporary vibe with tiled floors, smart striped sofas and a stone fireplace. This comfortable and welcoming room is dominated by some quite magnificent views.

Smart and well appointed, the kitchen has doors leading onto a large balcony creating an appealing spot for breakfast whilst a barbecue to one side encourages outdoor living and creative cooking (why not?). A twin bedroom with en suite bathroom also opens out onto the balcony.

The second floor has a double and a twin bedroom both enjoying en suite amenities and a large shared balcony from where the panorama takes in the Albanian mountains, Ionian sea, and the surrounding forest-covered hillsides that make Federika so private.

Fields, a couple of boatyards and an occasional house line the road to nearby Kassiopi (2km) whose outskirts have two supermarkets. Stroll into the centre to find a lively procession of shops, restaurants and tavernas that lead down to the quieter harbourfront whose tavernas and coffee shops offer a more traditional experience in a very picturesque setting. The verdant environs of Avlaki Bay also offer the prospect of woodland strolls further enhancing the inherent charm of this unspoilt location.

Inviting, spacious and relaxing, Federika and Avlaki Beach make for an irresistible combination!
Since these accompanying photographs were taken the surrounding trees have been trimmed to give uninterrupted views from the pool terrace to the sea and the Albanian mountains.
