A property that enjoys such close proximity to a sandy beach as El Chozo is hard to find. It was therefore with delight that we viewed this charming holiday home, which sits within enclosed grounds in Fuente del Gallo, a smart residential area that occupies a privileged position along the coast just outside the pretty fishing town of Conil de la Frontera.
Typically Andaluz in style, with its whitewashed walls and bougainvillea strewn terrace, this is an appealing house that forms a comfortable base for a break by the sea. Inside, floors of terracotta tiles combine with crisp white painted walls, and pine furniture and ceiling beams to create a welcoming ambience, whilst doors on three sides of the ground floor allow for easy access to the well maintained garden that surrounds the house. With its spacious lawns and larger than average pool, this outside area is perfect for relaxing in, although having the lovely golden sandy beach of Fuente del Gallo just 400 metres away is an added attraction.
Not only the sea is close to hand. A gentle stroll of just 200 metres from the house is a restaurant, set just back from the shore and featuring freshly caught fish as one of the many appetising dishes on its menu. A wider range of eating establishments, a good selection of shops and local markets can be found in the pueblo blanco of Conil de la Frontera, which touches another sweep of fine sand just 1.5km away. Alternatively, for day trips further afield, the atmospheric ancient port of Cadiz is just a 30 minute drive; a little further north is the sherry producing centre of Jerez, whilst not to be missed is the elegance and grandeur of Sevilla, which can be reached in 1.5 hours.
