Villa Description

To the south of Bergerac lies a picturesque scene of undulating countryside interspersed with pretty villages and fields of vines. Here, the vineyards are an intrinsic part of the landscape and indeed the local life. It is amidst this setting that we came across Le Manoir du Vignoble, a beautiful property owned by a local viticulturist whose vineyards form part of the grounds around the house.

Villa: Le Manoir du Vignoble

The façade of Le Manoir du Vignoble is that most attractive combination of pale stone walls with a steep tiled roof of original local tiles in hues of burnt sienna, rusts and browns. Dormer windows framed by stone complete the impressive appearance. The front of the house faces the circular driveway, in the middle of which is a lawned area dotted with trees. Stone steps lead up to the small terrace and the entrance to the house.

Behind the traditional stone façade is an imposing and spacious interior. High beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls throughout the ground floor invoke a sense of grandeur, complemented by the impressive tall stone fireplaces, reminiscent of those found in châteaux, which can be seen in the dining room, living room and kitchen. An atmospheric underground vaulted den has become the place in which to have a game of billiards. The sleeping accommodation takes on a more modern feel with a mixture of oak flooring, painted walls and up to date en suite facilities. At the far side of the main accommodation is a large reception/games room with its own kitchenette, living area with TV, DVD and CD players. From here, stairs lead to a dormitory, complete with its own en suite, a fun arrangement for children and teenagers.

French windows open out on to the grounds that surrounded the property. At the rear, steps lead down to the pool area, perfectly positioned to take in the open vista of vineyards and countryside. Slightly further away but still within the grounds is a small lake where fishing is allowed.

The nearby town of Sigoulès (4km) provides basic amenities whilst to the north the town of Bergerac (16km) sits on the banks of the River Dordogne. From the old port, where you can take boat trips along the river, cobbled streets lead into the 'vieille ville' where half timbered buildings adorned with flowers house a variety of cafés, restaurants and shops. Scenic routes through the countryside lead you to a number of pretty villages, including Issigeac, Monbazillac, and Eymet.

Please note: Parties paying the small party rate will have use of the four main bedrooms. The dormitory on the first floor is not available. The owners live in a separate house to one side of the front courtyard and do not use any of the facilities. Flexible changeover days may be possible over certain periods at this house. Please enquire.
