We are very fortunate to have discovered Lucia, one of a privileged enclave of just four houses, occupying a spectacular hillside position overlooking the fortified hilltop town of Motovun and the densely wooded slopes of the Mirna River valley. Recently built and beautifully presented this fine family house is situated along a short unmade country track only 4km from the outskirts of Motovun.

Designed to take full advantage of the splendid vista ahead, the light and airy living accommodation flows easily over two distinct areas: a triple-aspect sitting room and a separate, spacious kitchen/ dining room also with three-way views. Double doors on opposite sides of the room lead onto two independent and well-furnished covered terraces, ideal venues for enjoying morning coffee on one side and lunch or dinner on the other.

All four bedrooms are very comfortably furnished boasting en suite facilities, exposed wooden floorboards, cross beams and vaulted ceilings. On the first floor, both double bedrooms have a full 180° panoramic vista encompassing Motovun and the River Mirna with the balcony off the principal bedroom a perfect location for some memorable family photographs. The pool (strategically positioned to be visible from both kitchen and dining area), garden patios and elegant arched dining terrace can also lay claim to these same captivating views.

Historic Motovun offers a couple of good local restaurants, a minimarket for essentials and a few bars. For fine dining, the speciality truffle dishes served at Zigante restaurant just across the river in Livade are justly famous. Nearby Pazin (15km) is home to a medieval castle and a dramatic limestone gorge reputedly the inspiration for Dante's description of the gateway to Hell in his 'Inferno'!

Coastal Porec, a 25 minute drive, has a magnificent 7th century Byzantine basilica (designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its mosaics) and hydrofoils run regularly across the Adriatic to Venice for a fascinating day out. A vast choice of restaurants can also be found lining the waterfront and in the warren of cobbled back streets.

For sea swimming in pristine, crystal clear waters, the uncrowded stretch of coast north of Porec, just south of Cervar-Porat offers plenty of parking and natural rocky beaches backed by pine forest. A scenic and equally uncrowded nine hole golf course has recently opened in the valley below Lucia.
