Magnificent views of the immense golden sandy beach of Georgiopoulis are laid out below this authentically Cretan country house. From its lovely location at the top of a simple track, Chrissi enjoys the freshness of gentle hillside breezes and boasts thick stone walls that create an oasis of cool in the summer. Outside, the inviting private pool adds a dramatic and inviting splash of blue to the landscape.

Homely and welcoming, the sitting and dining areas mix traditional décor with an astute sense of style. Wood beams and exposed stone add colour and character to the rustic atmosphere enhancing a living space that is both quaint and charming. On the first floor, the private balcony off the double bedroom enjoys wonderful sea views while the twin bedroom offers an eye-catching rural panorama.

There is plenty of space around the poolside terrace to arrange sun loungers to suit the mood and the constantly changing panorama of sparkling sea and surrounding mountains. Somewhat unexpectedly, a double bed can be found under the shaded terrace area next to the pool(!), surely an enticement to lay back and gaze upwards in awe at the crystal clarity of a night sky that makes identifying familiar constellations, shooting stars and orbiting satellites a fun pastime.

Nestling at the bottom of the famous White Mountains, Georgiopoulis is the hub for the local farming and fishing communities and boasts a wide, 9km long sandy beach. Shaded by plane trees, the main square buzzes with life as locals and visitors frequent the shops of this appealing little town. The nearby hamlet of Exopoli (1km) has a couple of tavernas while the large and vibrant towns of Chania and Rethymnon are also within easy distance. A combination of three separate rivers flowing down to the sea and rare eucalyptus trees has created a unique environment that attracts unusual wildlife. A refuge has evolved to protect pelicans and turtles that have settled there and paddle boats can be hired to explore the backwaters.
