Villa Description
The craggy Lycian coast is an area of stunning diversity. Here, simplicity and sophistication nestle side by side while tranquillity and vitality are never far apart. These endearing qualities are what make the coastline so special and, naturally, what first attracted us to explore this dramatic region. It was during one of our early forays that we had the good fortune to meet the genial Bahadir and visit his newly built house, Sedir Evi.
Lovingly constructed by Bahadir, this charming home has ample evidence of his engaging and contagious personality. As you enter into the large open plan living area from the poolside terrace (there is a further entrance directly into the upstairs landing from the front of the house) you are immediately struck by the clever mix of traditionally designed furnishings with modern day kitchen facilities. A tastefully decorated twin bedroom and one of the three stylish bathrooms are also to be found downstairs with two further bedrooms, two bathrooms and a comfortably furnished balcony on the first floor.
Delightful as the interior is, it is without question the exteriors that will catch your eye. Bright primary colour schemes dominate and beautifully blend with the natural leafy shades from the planted gardens; this is an oasis from which you will struggle to stir. Bahadir has demonstrated his artistic skills with aplomb around the landscaped gardens creating various pretty corners, both open and shaded, in which to sit back and relax.
Should you decide to wander out of this delightful haven, there are wonderful experiences to be had simply by following the myriad mountain roads, heading nowhere in particular, just soaking in the astounding scenery and stumbling across similarly laid back villages and hamlets where time, as in Islamlar, appears to have stood still.
For evening meals, do visit the celebrated local trout farms, of which a couple can be found less than two kilometres away from Sedir Evi. Ownership of these traditional establishments has been passed down through families for generations and they are renowned for their superb freshly reared river trout, served with locally made village cheese, seasonal asparagus and other freshly grown salads and vegetables.
For a further slice of culture, Kalkan is only a 15 minute drive away, where a wide selection of excellent roof top restaurants and bars can be found - a wonderful spot in which to soak up the amiable atmosphere whilst indulging in a freshly squeezed orange juice or maybe glass or two of raki, a lively, locally distilled liquer.
