Villa Description

One of Tuscany’s jewels is Lucca, a walled town where the past meets the present: Renaissance buildings house chic boutiques, the site of a Roman amphitheatre is now a piazza, and the tops of the tree lined ramparts now provide a shady path for walkers and cyclists. Many of the Lucchesi live in the surrounding countryside, in villages that allow easy access into the heart of this delightful town. It was in one such residential area that we came across La Capannella, a neat, brightly coloured villa, ideal for a family or couple.

Behind the cheery yellow walls lies a perfectly formed interior, made for easy living. To the rear are the bedrooms, either side of the shower room. The spacious living room with double doors onto the terrace and a well equipped kitchen/dining room face the garden. Wood shutters, high ceilings, white washed walls and tiled floors ensure the house remains cool during the summer months. The garden is equally appealing. The pristine lawn acts as a divider between the terrace and the decked pool and to one side is a covered outdoor dining area, with the barbecue close by.

A small grocery store is nearby and there is a choice of restaurants within 2km. Nearby too are the Lucchese Villas, impressive country residences of the Lucca nobility, now open to the public. To the east is Collodi (10km), a favourite with children for its Pinocchio Park (based on the children’s storybook), whilst adults will enjoy Montecatini Terme (21km) for its golf and spa facilities. The long sandy beaches, maritime pine forests and chic Italian resorts that line the Versilia coastline can be reached in under an hour.
