Demetrius is one of a very select few houses to occupy this privileged position. Situated on the hillside just above sleepy Kalathos with views across to Vliha Bay and the sparkling Aegean, this is a wonderful location. Dotted around the landscape ancient olive groves, citrus orchards and tangled clumps of rosemary and wild thyme sway in the breeze, their enticing, perfumed aromas wafting across the hillside.

Adjacent to the roomy sun terrace, the stone-built barbecue with lovely shady pergola and dining area is a particular highlight and an ideal focal point for laid back summer living. Enjoy an early evening drink here as the sun sets and watch the colours of the sea and surrounding landscape perform their dazzling daily metamorphosis… an impressive spectacle offered free of charge by mother nature!

Amongst the many attributes of this fine property are two good sized bedrooms, two bathrooms and a spacious, comfortable open plan living room from where patio doors lead out to the pool. Air conditioning keeps the house agreeably cool over the hotter parts of the day and during those long, balmy summer evenings.

The old village of Kalathos, 500m downhill, has two interesting churches – one at the top of the hill affording magnificent views, the other an ancient chapel near the bottom of the village itself. Lapped by clear, sparkling waters and rarely busy, even in the height of summer, the long shingle beach of Kalathos (1.8km) is great to visit in the early afternoon for a cooling dip. On the way home why not pause at the traditional kafenion or in one of the two local tavernas before picking up supplies at the minimarket for your evening barbecue.

The picture-postcard village of Lindos, offering a comprehensive assortment of restaurants, bars and activities is only a 5 minute drive away. Alternatively, 10 minutes north of Kalathos, the gorgeous village of Haraki has a tiny half-moon shaped bay, popular with fishermen and bordered by a simple selection of reputable tavernas serving fresh local specialities including moussaka, ‘meze’ and stuffed vegetables. A coastal footpath leads from the village past the ruins of Haraki castle to Agathi, a lovely sandy beach overlooked by an old monastery carved into the rocks and providing a truly inspirational setting for any budding artists or photographers.
