On a hillside of olive groves and oak trees sits a spacious farmhouse, Villa Cristina, its lovely golden stonework blending harmoniously with the surrounding countryside. Its situation ensures sweeping views across the verdant green slopes of a hidden valley behind the medieval town of Castiglion Fiorentino, a vista to be enjoyed from the poolside, dining terraces and the cool, shaded gazeboes.
Internally, Villa Cristina retains a traditional Tuscan charm, with original features including wood beams and terracotta tiled floors, whilst being a comfortable and welcoming home for today's guests.
The ground floor is home to the open plan kitchen/diner with living room, a cool retreat from the summer weather. Three of the bedrooms are on the first floor, with the fourth to be found in a separate 'casetta' in the grounds, an ideal choice for those in the group seeking additional privacy.
Much of the time will surely be spent lounging by the pool taking in the views or enjoying a long leisurely lunch al fresco. Essentials can be purchased in Santa Cristina (2km) with further amenities to be found in Castiglion Fiorentino (7km). A local chef can be hired to provide delicious, traditional Tuscan evening meals - perfect for special occasions.
For those wishing to try the local wines, the owners of Villa Cristina organise wine tastings from their own vineyards or you can cross the valley and head to the Chianti hills to sample the famous wines of the region. And finally for a change of scenery, take the train from Arezzo to Florence, a journey of about an hour, and spend the day in the timeless and captivating Tuscan capital.
