This fabulous villa has the most breathtaking views form the pool patio, the sitting room balcony and the two balconies on the first floor, so you are spoilt for choice when contemplating from where to watch the sunsets and enjoy an aperitif! Astarti, situated in Vigla, is north of charming Corfu town and on the wonderful coastal journey there, a series of increasingly beautiful panoramas reveal the deep blue of the Ionian channel framed by greenery. A tiny village in a lovely position,  Vigla is situated above some of the prettiest coves and bays in the Ionian islands.

Astarti has a  classic country style, the sitting and dining areas bright and contemporary, and the whole floor opens out onto the terrace with magnificent sea views towards Albania, a distant neighbour. Two twin bedrooms are on the ground floor, one sharing the same sea views and the other with a garden view. Upstairs the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom has two separate balconies looking down on Kouloura bay, Kalami and Yaliskari beaches.

Restful and relaxing inside, the exterior areas are equally enchanting. Dominating the main terrace is a good size private pool, a stone archway to one side provides plenty of shade for daytime dining and a further terrace houses the barbecue all adorned by pretty flowers and a romantic statue.

When the author Lawrence Durrell lived in Kalami, 2km downhill, one of his favourite walks was through the woods and lanes carpeted with cyclamen, up to Vigla (the name means 'Vista' as historically it was the spot where local sea captains would meet to watch ship movements on the waters below). Many of Durrell's childhood pursuits such as delving into rock pools, 'messing about in boats', and fishing off the rocks are just as much fun today.

Kalami's horseshoe shaped bay has a few beachside tavernas and bars, a mini-market and some watersports. Sheltered by the dense cypress forest on the lower slopes of Mount Pantokrator, nearby Kouloura Bay (2 km) is overlooked by the elegant Rothschild residence while Aghios Stefanos is a chic low-key village, offering boat hire and two popular coffee/cocktail bars.

Most of the coveted bays in this picturesque region have charming, laid back tavernas serving feta cheese, salads, grilled meat or fish and delicious Greek yoghurt with honey. Kassiopi (7 km) has an excellent selection of amenities around its bustling main square.
