To find a house in the chic spa town of Mondariz Balneario that offers spacious, enclosed grounds and a rural backdrop of lush woodland and is yet at the same time just a 400m stroll from the shops and restaurants and 750m from the thermal baths of this historic centre is unusual. We were therefore delighted to discover Casa da Labandeira, a charming property incorporating two beautifully presented cottages that sit within pretty and mature gardens in this much sought after location.

Ideal for sharing families or smaller groups who may wish to take up the option of occupying the main house only, this is a property that exudes flair and style, and it came as no surprise to learn that its owner’s occupation is interior design. Subtle colour schemes set off furnishings that are elegant and homely, colourful rugs complement floors of polished wood and terracotta tile, and the incorporation of original features and antique pieces adds character. 

Equally enticing is the colourful garden within which the houses nestle. Made beautifully private by the mature foliage that surrounds it, this is an idyllic retreat of wide lawns, shady trees, beds of scented lavender and bright flowers and an impressive covered barbecue area equipped with stone table and benches for eating al fresco.

To the rear, mature woodland stretches beyond the lane off which the property sits, whilst in the other direction a short walk gently downhill reveals the ornate façades, riverside promenade and extensive facilities of Galicia’s most historic spa town. Offering some appealing options for a truly relaxing holiday, its amenities include a ‘Palacio de Agua’ with thermal leisure activities beneath a transparent dome, a Celtic Spa with saunas and baths, and an 18 hole golf course.
