This attractive stone retreat has magnificent views of tree covered hills stretching dramatically down to the sea. Distinct burgundy patterned tiles embellish the beautiful pool terraces that seemingly jut out into the dense, verdant waves of undulating hills. In the corner is a covered dining area taking full advantage of the stupendous views, while oleander and palm trees add greenery to the stone flagged terrace and a tall chimney stands like a sentinel.

Complementing the natural copper-tinged strains of locally quarried granite, the exterior plasterwork at Isadora has had terracotta added to the mix giving the façade a distinctive (and very traditional) dusky pink hue. The impression is that you are looking through rose-tinted spectacles, particularly at sunset when the dramatic amber skies turn the house walls ever-deeper shades of cerise.
Complementing the natural copper strains of the granite rock quarried locally, the exterior plaster has the traditional addition of terracotta giving it a dusky pink colour. The effect is as if glimpsed through “rose-tinted spectacles”, when seen at sunset, as the dramatic amber skies turn the walls deeper shades of cerise.

Homely and welcoming inside, exposed brickwork, simple tiled floors and wooden ceilings imbue the whole house with a timeless air. Decorated in traditional Cretan style, modern touches ensure the established character of the villa is kept and the mood is informal. The double bedroom has an en suite bathroom and the two twin bedrooms each enjoy patio doors leading out to terraces both front and back.

When it’s time to pop out for essentials, Panos Stalos is waiting; this simple unspoilt village (1.5km) is made up of a handful of houses, three tavernas, a mini-market and the local kafenion, where joining the locals at backgammon can be a serious pastime. Below, Kato Stalos’ sandy beach (3.5km) has plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. Maria’s taverna is an established landmark and well-liked by the locals, while the Bamboo bar is a popular haunt for chilling out right next to the beach.

Waiting to be explored is the north western coast, the remote Kissamos region and the fabulous Falassarna beach, considered one of the top 10 beaches in Greece and consisting of five unspoilt beaches of fine white sand.

Closer to base, the delightful old harbour of Chania (10km) is backed by a historic domed mosque and houses a wealth of lively waterside tavernas beneath its crumbling Venetian façades. Modelled on Marseille market, the Agora is a huge indoor marketplace offering a unique shopping experience we think everyone should sample at least once!
