Hiding behind a typically Algarvean façade of whitewashed walls with door and window frames highlighted in yellow, we believe Casa da Nora boasts one of the most quirky and imaginatively designed interiors of any property in our Portuguese portfolio. Sympathetically fusing traditional features with contemporary décor and furnishings, the renovation of this former farmhouse has been carried out with thought, care and a craftsman’s eye for detail. Meticulously overseeing the project, Peter, the charismatic property owner, has created a bright and welcoming home that offers a tremendous sense of space for four people.

With grounds spreading deceptively over two distinct levels, the accompanying photographs create something of an optical illusion. Entering on the ground floor you will find two en suite bedrooms either side of the hallway and a deconstructed staircase rising into the huge, open plan living area.

From here there is direct access out to the pool, sun terrace and barbecue house which sit immediately adjacent to the property’s first floor and offer far-reaching rural views to the rolling hills that surround Silves, former capital of the Moorish kingdom in southern Iberia.

Minimalist and uncluttered, the interior juxtaposes original terracotta tiled floors with grey metal roof supports and comfortably blends antique pieces of furniture with modern sofas, electrical equipment and an up to the minute kitchen. Prints by Dali, Chagall, Tutti and Cézanne are attractively displayed on the walls alongside an equally colourful selection of Haitian themed artwork. Both in and around Casa da Nora various whimsical touches belie the owner’s passion for engineering as well as his vivid imagination!

Dominated by the red sandstone walls of its hilltop castle, nearby Silves (4.5km) has all amenities (including Rui, widely considered one of the Algarve’s best seafood restaurants) and, every August, a celebrated medieval festival featuring stalls, jousting and street entertainers alongside full costumed re-enactments of historic events. Excellent facilities are also found in Lagoa (8km) and there are several lovely beaches within a 20-30 minute drive. Fontes de Estombar, just 15 minutes away, offers picnic areas, good walking and canoeing as well as a regular programme of open air jazz concerts.
Because of the deconstructed staircase this house is not suitable for children under 6 years of age. Peter, the property owner, lives within the grounds, well away from Casa da Nora and with a separate driveway/entrance. He does not use any of the house facilities and your privacy is fully assured at all times. Peter respectfully requests that guests do not smoke inside the house.
