La Calma 4 Bedrooms | 5 Bathrooms | Wi-Fi | Small Party Rate | Beach 4.5km | Sleeps 8
Outdoor summer living could not be more inviting. The south-facing private pool sits enticingly in a handsome broad flagstone surround, or you may choose to recline on the chill-out sofa, thoughtfully positioned to look over both the pool and the impressive view. The covered dining terrace running along the front façade of La Calma is surely destined to be the venue for many an open air meal whilst simultaneously feasting on that mesmerising vista. A small neat cactus garden, children’s play area, hammock and in built barbecue complete the excellent outdoor facilities. From the front covered terrace double doors lead into the long living room where the tasteful quality of the property is immediately apparent: gleaming quarry-tiled floors combine attractively with the wood-beamed ceiling, indented with a sequence of skylights skilfully admitting daylight whilst deflecting the direct sunshine. This is, in effect, the hub of the house with three highly individual en suite bedrooms opening on to this area and the kitchen and dining room accessed from one side. Throughout, subtle detailing is much in evidence. Look for the odd stained glass window, occasional panels of open stone wall and the restrained but bold use of dazzling primary colours all of which contribute to the unique, relaxed ambience of La Calma. Equally well appointed, a spacious, self-contained casita adjoins the house. With its own dedicated access, covered terrace, kitchenette, sitting area, double bed and shower room, this private ‘suite’ would be ideal for an individual or couple seeking an extra element of privacy while at the same time remaining very much a part of holiday proceedings. Nearby San Joan (5km) remains one of the most authentic of Ibiza’s small towns with a gentle pace of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Architecture here features sloped roof houses, a rarity amongst the traditionally cubist style of most Ibicencan buildings and amenities include a couple of bars and restaurants, a chemist and a minimarket for everyday essentials. Similarly appointed San Miguel (7km) hosts weekly folk dancing in front of the church and a Thursday craft market while the comprehensive amenities, sandy beach and many good restaurants of Santa Eulalia are about a 15 minute drive. Other nearby beaches include San Miguel and Portinatx (each 6.5km) as well as world famous Benirrás (4.5km) where bongo-playing hippies regularly offer lively accompaniment to the dramatic sunsets!
