Absorbing vistas of the ocean spread out before you like a picture from the poolside, dining and upper bedroom terraces of this smart coastal home, which occupies a stunning position beneath the lighthouse of Montedor on the blissfully unspoilt coastline that stretches northward from the ancient port of Viana do Castelo.

Step outside the property and you will find yourself on the rural track that winds its way through a natural landscape of lush foliage to the waterfront.  Follow this northward for some 10 minutes to reach the wide sweep of dune-backed beach of Paço or southward for a slightly shorter distance to discover the golden sands of Carreço.  The latter is home to an Italian restaurant where meals can be taken overlooking the sea.

Boasting a design that is much favoured by contemporary architects in this region of Portugal, the interior displays clean lines, wide windows and a light, welcoming colour scheme of soft pastels. 

Forming the focal point of the downstairs area is a smartly furnished living room which flows seamlessly through to the poolside dining area via wide patio doors.  On the top floor the emphasis is on light and sea views in the two bedrooms that occupy this level, their wide windows and adjoining balconies bringing the wonderful seascape into the rooms. 

Its situation, on the coastal edge of the village of Carreço, means that as well as being close to the beach, the house is also within easy reach of the village’s amenities which include a local shop, pharmacy, café, restaurant and a station from where trains can be taken to all the other villages along the coast or further afield to Porto.  Alternatively, the historic port of Viana do Castelo is just a 10 minute drive away.
