Imagine our wonder and delight when we entered through an unassuming wooden gate off a narrow street in the picturesque village of Auriac, and the vista opened out onto tree-lined gardens overlooked by this magnificent stone house.

Beautiful honey coloured stone walls and exposed beams and floorboards throughout bear witness to the authenticity and character of the building, which is topped by the distinctive Périgord roof typical to the region.

The spacious and tastefully furnished living room forms the core of the property, with a vast stone fireplace taking centre stage. Leading off to one side, the modern country style kitchen has a pleasingly rustic bench table for indoor dining and access onto the shaded decking terrace for al fresco meals.

Benefitting from an elevated position, views over the garden towards the village square can be enjoyed from the pool terrace and the kitchen, and from the principal bedroom in particular. The inner courtyard affords a level of privacy that is perhaps surprising given its central location.

You need only to stroll to the village square in Auriac to enjoy a meal at the local ‘auberge’ and there is also an excellent restaurant in the country hotel just outside the village. A further selection of restaurants and shops can be found in Montignac or Thénon, both only 7km away. Les Quatre Saisons is ideally positioned for the myriad attractions of the Dordogne region, including the towns of Sarlat-la-Canéda (30km) and Périgueux (40km). This area is perhaps best known for its spectacular caves and prehistoric paintings, nearby Lascaux II at Montignac being one of the most famous. From here the Vézère river meanders south, through picturesque Les Eyzies (32km) where troglodyte houses are built into the overhanging cliffs, and eventually flows into the Dordogne.
