Just a couple of miles east of the attractive Tuscan town of Montepulciano, Villa Ascianello stands majestically on a hillside with sweeping views beyond cypress trees over the Val di Chiana. Recently renovated in an elegant art deco style, a artistic flair is evident throughout the house, from colourful fabrics and striking features to original paintings created by the owner himself.

Inside, the red and white chequered flooring, so typical of this region in the 1920’s, echoes back to the original roots of the house. Unusually, two mirror-image living areas can be found on the ground and first floors boasting modern kitchens, comfortable sitting areas and uniquely stylistic furnishings.

A grey stone fireplace is an eye-catching centre piece in both rooms and lends a contemporary note to the highly individual style of this property. And it doesn’t stop there. A clever colour-coding approach has been taken with the bedrooms to match linen and décor with the wonderfully bright ceiling fan. Bathrooms revert to a more contemporary look, though of particular note is the bathroom on the second floor which has an oversize bathtub located under a sloping roof and large skylight – a most relaxing spot in which to unwind.

Keen swimmers will enjoy the large swimming pool, which has been set in a remarkable grey stone terrace surveying the surrounding vineyards and olive groves. Dotted with mature trees, the attractive lawned gardens offer plenty of shady spots to take respite from the heat of the day.

Nearby Montepulciano (7km) is synonymous with some of the finest wines available in Italy, especially the Vino Nobile. Why not take one of the many wine tours on offer to get a full appreciation of the local speciality? Montepulciano also offers some magnificent palaces and wonderful piazzas to explore at your leisure. Amenities including a large supermarket can be found in Torrita di Siena (5km) and the town itself is also worth visiting. Still partially surrounded by 12th Century walls, a lively market takes place here on Fridays.
This is a non-smoking property.
