In making an unprecedented collaboration, three of the French Riviera’s most influential and critically acclaimed theatres have produced an astounding programme of events for the 2013 season, including theatre, music and dance.

The Theatre Jeu de Paume

The magnificent Theatre Jeu de Paume in Aix-en-Provence was built in 1756 on the site of a royal tennis court. This architectural marvel boasts one of the most stunning examples of 18th century architecture. In 1993, French theatre director, Domonic Bluzet, was given the task of managing all three of these French Riviera theatres, and managed to reinitiate the Jeu de Paume back to its former glory.

Theatre du Gymnase

The Theatre du Gymnase in Marseille has been seducing locals and visitors alike since it was constructed in 1804. This typically Italian designed theatre consists of a U-shaped orchestra surrounded by boxes and balconies, lavish internal décor of velvet seats and an intricately painted ceiling.

This exclusive theatre is also managed by Bluzet and has gone from strength to strength during its time in the capable hands of the highly regarded French director.

The Grand Theatre de Provence

Since 2007 the Grand Theatre de Provence has also been under Bluzet’s wing and in a commitment to making theatre, music and dance accessible to all, the Grand Theatre du Provence is now one of France’s most critically acclaimed theatres.

This stunning theatre’s design is also typical of a traditional Italian opera theatre, with rows of crush velvet seats and three levels of balcony curving around the stage.

The French Riviera’s theatre scene for 2013 promises to be a great one, showcasing an exquisite programme that will rival the best of theatre, music and dance from around the world.
