Wolves are fascinating animals, and whilst they disappeared from France 70 years ago, in 1992 they were reintroduced to the Mercantour National Park.<\/p>\n

Today the area of Le Boreon is home to a thriving enclave of wolves. Covering a vast expanse of 10 hectares the protected area has been called Alpha Wolf Park.<\/p>\n

With its crystal clear streams, impressive rock formations, alpine shrubs arbitrarily sprouting amongst the masses of huge, domineering trees, the Mercantour National Park is a stunning location for walking, regardless to whether you sight a wolf or not.<\/p>\n

It has to be said, with wolves being most active in the spring and autumn, now would be a great time to lace up your walking boots and head to the mountains of Mercantour National Park.<\/p>\n

Just remember to have your camera ready!<\/p>\n

Another unusual resident of the Cote d\u2019Azur is the llama. Take a trip up to the Col de Turini, which culminates at an altitude of 1607 metres, and allow your eyes to not only feast on the breath-taking scenery of the Alpine mountain pass, but also perhaps and llama or two.<\/p>\n

These strange looking animals, which are descended from the camel, have been bred in the region for the past several years.<\/p>\n

With more than 500 species of animals and birdlife, 20 of which are protected, the Biological Reserve Monts d\u2019Azur, near Thorenc in the Alpes-Maritimes, can only be described as being a nature-lovers haven.<\/p>\n
