Due to its close proximity to Galicia, Minho shares many of the Celtic influences and cultural traits of its Spanish neighbour. As Braga has been awarded with the title of \u2018European Youth Capital 2012\u2019, this year would be a fantastic time to visit this ancient town.<\/p>\n<p>This proud and inimitable northern Portuguese region is scattered with medieval architecture, ancient monasteries, cosy churches and glorious cathedrals, demonstrating the area\u2019s long and spiritual history and heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Asides from its diverse and stunning landscapes, ranging from rushing and mighty rivers to gently rolling hillsides sprinkled with colourful and fragrant flowers, its many sites of historical interest that have remained untouched for centuries, and its quirky interesting villages perched upon pretty pastures, Minho is famous as being the founder of caldo valdo soup and nowhere serves it quite as authentically and deliciously as in the mesmerising region of northern Portugal.<\/p>\n<p>If you are lucky enough to be heading to Minho in Northern Portugal\u00a0sometime soon, we recommend a stay at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vintagetravel.co.uk\/villa_details.cfm?p_id=33\" target=\"_blank\">Casa da Fontainha<\/a> (pictured).
