This ancient town is believed to have been founded in the tenth century, by two pilgrims named Aegidius and Arcanus. According to legend the two men brought a fragment of the Holy Sepulche to Sansepolcro and built an Oratory, which with the holy relic embedded into the building, became an important place of spiritual worship.<\/p>\n

Being encircled by the fertile plains of the Upper Tiber Valley, crops are abundant in this part of Italy and it was in Sansepolcro where, in 1827, the first pasta factory in Italy was opened.
