Mallorca might not be Europe\u2019s most obvious destination for tranquillity and untouched beauty but the serene pastoral spot of which Es Gallicant is located certainly takes some beating in veiled delights off the beaten track.<\/p>\n

\"Es<\/a><\/p>\n

Concealed by a natural thicket of woodland, farmland, pine trees and wild olives, this three bedroom, three bathroom cortijo, only exists to those who know about it,\u00a0 Yes, it\u2019s safe to say that if you\u2019re looking for a \u2018get away from it all\u2019 Mallorcan escape, you\u2019ve come to the right place.<\/p>\n

The first thing that stands out when arriving at Es Gallicant is the amount of land surrounding the house. There is a large planted island in the driveway, edged creatively with trees. Trees are also present around the periphery of the garden, which is wonderfully spacious. The house itself is a single story cortijo, typical of\u00a0 old Spanish property that can be found all over Spain, with the exception of the Northern Atlantic coast. You can see at a first glance that Es Gallicant is presented to an extremely high standard. The outside walls are faced with natural stone with huge fitted cornerstones and window frames in contrasting white, retaining a true old cortijo style.<\/p>\n

The high standard of workmanship continues when you enter the house, which can sleep up to six guests. Floors are tiled in both diamond and square patterns with pretty contrasting painted tiles providing additional panache. The roof is barrel vaulted and very agreeable to the eye. The open-plan living room and dining area has a true Mediterranean feel with arched French doors leading out on to the veranda terrace and an arched entrance taking you into a stylish fitted modern kitchen. There’s nothing quite like an archway to add further Spanish authenticity!<\/p>\n

Heavy thick wooden tables, wooden dressers and bedside cabinets are perfectly in-keeping with the style of a Spanish Cortijo. Ironwork augments the traditional style further, including a majestic four poster iron bed and characterful iron terrace settees. With its colour co-ordination and modern interior, the kitchen breaks up the traditional ‘Mallorcaness’ of the rest of the house.<\/p>\n

The 12.25 x 6.5 metre swimming pool is large by anyone\u2019s standards but somehow manages to look small in the middle of a huge swathe of well-kept lawn. There is a 2 x 2 metre shallow area of the pool, designated for any little ones in your party. There are so many places to lie back, relax and read in a book in Es Gallicant\u2019s extensive grounds where you can take in the beauty of this untouched part of southern Mallorca.<\/p>\n

If you can manage to drag yourselves away from this excellent holiday cortijo and the emerald expanse that surrounds it, the towns of Campos and Santanyi are only 10 minutes away. With weekly markets, bakeries and bars, these pleasant towns are bustling in a timeless, traditional kind of way. You couldn\u2019t stay on Mallorca without spending the odd day on a beach and at Es Gallicant many wonderful beaches are at your disposal.<\/p>\n
