If you are of the latter persuasion and yearn peace and solitude on holiday then you\u2019re in for a treat, as Corfu is awash with timeless villages, surrounded by nature at its most beautiful.<\/p>\n

Take a look at the following three must see inland villages on this rather special Greek island.<\/p>\n

Lakones<\/strong><\/p>\n

This traditional and picturesque village is nestled on the lush slopes of a verdant hillside, not far from Angelokastro Castle and above the beach resort of Paleokastritsa.<\/p>\n

The area is bursting with interesting hillside trails, many of which eventually lead to the sea, and is the perfect spot for walkers to become acquainted with the island\u2019s unique natural beauty.<\/p>\n

From quaint churches to 18th<\/sup> century houses and traditional shops, not to mention Greek ladies wearing traditional robes, at the village of Lakones it really does feel like you have stepped back in time.<\/p>\n

Ano Korakiana\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just 19 kilometres from the hustle and bustle of Corfu Town lies the historical settlement of Ano Korakiana. This picturesque village was first inhabited during the medieval times and still retains some of its ancient features.<\/p>\n

With a total of 37 churches, Ano Korakiana\u00a0is well-known for being a village scattered with traditional, pretty churches. The village proudly clings to its traditional cultural past, vibrantly portraying its history of folklore and ceramic art.<\/p>\n

Overlooking the vast plains of Corfu\u2019s eastern side, brimming with fruit orchids and olive groves, Ano Korakiana\u00a0boasts a tremendous position \u2013 just remember to take your camera!<\/p>\n

Nymphes\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Having been described as \u2018Corfu\u2019s hidden gem\u2019, Nymphes\u00a0village on the island\u2019s northern side, is waiting to be discovered.<\/p>\n

The village is fed by waterfalls, hence how this region of Corfu is especially verdant and fertile. According to folklore, nymphs used to bath in the crystal clear waterfalls that tumble into the middle of the village.<\/p>\n
