A wide vista of green and gold, with olive trees stretching into the distance, it would be easy to imagine that you are entering a dreamy land where nothing much goes on. But that would be far from the truth, the Andalucíans are passionate people, with festivals and music that can be found virtually every week of the year, from small village Saints days to large city extravaganzas. Take a look at just some of the reasons to visit Andalucía this summer…

The Alhambra in Granada

The Alhambra in Granada has always been a major attraction. The amazing tiles in the Nazarene Palace, the view of the city from the fort, and its beautiful gardens are impressive. The summer months do get very packed and it’s a good idea to book in advance.

The Coast

Andalucía has its fair share of great beaches and coves where it’s possible to find secluded spots.

Nerja and La Alpujarra

Nerja has an amazing cave system that is open to the public. It boasts one of the biggest stalactites in the world. The town is also very popular with those who love the shopping experience. Chris Stewart, author of ‘Driving over Lemons’ and Gerald Brennan author of ‘South from Granada’, helped make La Alpujarra popular. The scenic
routes around the sierras in this part of Andalucía are stunning to drive around.

Ronda

Further to the west is Ronda and its famous bridge, which drops to a chasm below.
The country surrounding Ronda and much of inland Andalucía is made for mountain biking along dusty trails, and through remote Andalucían villages.

White-knuckle activities

Or why not enjoy rafting on the Genil near Malaga? There are different sections for different age groups, starting from as young as six upwards.

The resort of Chiclana covers several sports such as windsurfing, horse-riding, diving and sailing. Then Andalucía gets really daring with the Tyrolean traverse ropeway at El Torcal. Or for a really thrilling experience, head to the recently opened Caminito Del Rey in the Malaga province. Thee kilometres of walkway clinging to the rock face of the Garganta Del Chorro, it also has glass floor sections to really freak you out.

Vintage Travel has a range of properties available to rent in Andalucía throughout the summer.

Casa Encantadora

One such property is the fabulous Casa Encantadora. Only 100 metres from the market square of Órgiva, a bohemian paradise, yet secluded and quiet, this little gem may only have one bedroom but it does have a large pool all to yourself, and a stunning vista of mountains. This is an ideal base for a couple wanting to explore the undiscovered Alpujarras.

Casa Maria

Casa Maria is within easy reach of the historic hilltop town of Ronda and is located on a hillside overlooking great views. It has a lovely mature garden and lawn with attractive pool.
