Built on a hill at the meeting place of the rivers Argens and Caramy, Carces is a wonderful and peaceful green region. The waterfalls are beautiful, and the area is crossed with wooded paths, ideal for nature enthusiasts and hikers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6597\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vintagetravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/shutterstock_222336433-710x472.jpg\" alt=\"Carces, Var\" width=\"700\" height=\"466\" \/><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0lake of Carc\u00e8s measures 100 hectares. This mighty lake is situated at the edge of the village and is fed by six rivers. Families come here to picnic, and this tranquil spot is ideal for fresh-water fishermen. Fishing competitions are regularly held at the lake, which contains many varieties, including carp, perch, zander, bream, catfish and pike.<\/p>\n<p>The village of Carc\u00e8s encircles its medieval ch\u00e2teau and provides enchanting walk up tiny streets, populated by many craftsmen. Houses in the village often display glazed tile fa\u00e7ades giving the place a unique charm. Other fa\u00e7ades in trompe-l&#8217;oeil style confirm the appealing traditionalism of the town. The oldest properties are considered to date from the 18th century, and many are still well preserved and maintained with love and care. They have subtle, warm colours and geometric shapes, which are typical of Carces.<\/p>\n<p>Le Hameau des Vignerons (The Winemakers Hamlet) has been in operation since 1910. It is the Var province\u2019s third biggest winemakers\u2019 cooperative, utilising 600 hectares of vines. The Boutique du Hameau is open for visitors for tasting sessions and of course sale of their delicious wines.<\/p>\n<p>Other places nearby that are definitely worth visiting include the federal castle of St Suzanne built in the 10th and 11th centuries. Also, be sure to take a look at the clock tower, Fountain of four seasons, and the contemporary art museum.<\/p>\n<p>For the more active visitors, there is tennis, fishing, horseback riding, plenty of hiking with over thirteen different trails, cliff climbing at Falaise de Brauch and even Cyclo-tourism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carces is situated in the Var Provence region, in the south-east of France, some 44 km from Toulon.
