<\/p>\nThe pulsating city of Barcelona is awash with exciting things to do and see all year round. And none more exciting than visiting the alluring Park\u00a0G\u00fcell.<\/p>\n

Park\u00a0G\u00fcell is a public park located on Carmel Hill in La Salut, a neighbourhood of Barcelona. The construction of Park\u00a0G\u00fcell\u00a0began in 1900, when the Spanish entrepreneur Count Eusebi\u00a0G\u00fcell appointed renowned architect Antoni Gaud\u00ed to create a miniature city of houses designed for the wealthy to live within landscaped gardens.<\/p>\n
The project was unsuccessful and was dismissed in 1914 after Gaud\u00ed had built some three kilometres of walkways, roads, a plaza, steps and two gatehouses. In 1926 the miniature city was opened as public park.<\/p>\n
The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984 due to it being designed by Gaud\u00ed. Hailed as one of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s most seminal works, Park\u00a0G\u00fcell demonstrates the architect\u2019s passion for natural forms.<\/p>\n
At the entrance of this enchanting park are two \u2018Hansel and Gretel\u2019 style gatehouses. Also at the entrance is the park\u2019s Centre d\u2019Interpretaci\u00f2, which provides details about the park, including its history and descriptions of the building methods Gaud\u00ed used to construct it.<\/p>\n
A large mosaic dragon\/lizard guards the entrance. A series of steps lead to the Doric Temple, which comprises of some 88 stone columns, which were intended originally to be a marketplace.<\/p>\n
The park is also home to the Casa-Museu Gaud\u00ed, where the architect lived the latter years of his life until 1926. The house contains furniture made by Gaud\u00ed himself and other fascinating Gaud\u00ed memorabilia.<\/p>\n
A network of pathways wind their way through Park\u00a0G\u00fcell, which is predominantly wooded. Being one of Gaud\u00ed\u2019s most prominent works, it\u2019s hardly surprising that Park\u00a0G\u00fcell is an extremely popular tourist attraction in Barcelona, attracting an estimated four million visitors every year.<\/p>\n
Though you can\u2019t just wonder in and out of Park\u00a0G\u00fcell, as only a set number of visitors are allowed in every half an hour.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
