Kissamos is approximately 36km to the east of Chania in western Crete. This atmospheric town\u2019s focal point is its pretty harbour and pleasant promenade, which is lined by cafes, tavernas and shops.<\/p>\n
This pedestrianised area of Kissamos is the perfect place to sit and enjoy wining and dining on authentic Greek cuisine in a quality taverna that looks across to the boats bobbing up and down in the harbour and out to sea.<\/p>\n
Another tourist highlight of Kissamos is its archaeological museum, which can be found in the central square known as Stratigou Tzanakaki. Housed in a grade-listed building, the museum hosts a trove of local archaeological finds that date back many centuries, from the Hellenistic and Roman eras. Amongst the most notable items in the museum is its impressive display of mosaics.<\/p>\n
Meandering down a particularly charming street called Skalidi is pleasure not to be missed when visiting Kissamos. This old street is lined with traditional architecture and shops selling locally-made items from tradesmen and women.<\/p>\n
Daily boat trips leave Kissamos harbour for Gramvoussa and Balos Beach.
