The beautifully diverse sierras of Spain\u2019s most southerly region are a pleasure to visit, regardless of the time of year.<\/p>\n
Tracks meander through dense forests that are home to impressive flora and fauna. Walkers, runners, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts make the most of the well-maintained paths that network across the forests and hillsides.<\/p>\n
The shade of the trees means many of the region\u2019s sierras can be walked along and explored even in the height of summer.<\/p>\n
One especially beautiful mountain climb snakes to the top of the Sierra de Lijar. This beautiful mountain trail is located not far from the town of Algodonales, to the north of the Sierra de Grazalema mountains.<\/p>\n
Sweeping hairpin bends climb through the forested hillside until it finally reaches the Sierra de Lijar\u2019s peak, where the views are spectacular.<\/p>\n
The Sierra de Lijar is not far from the beautiful white-washed village of Olvera, in the Cadiz province of Andalusia.<\/p>\n
This dazzling and traditional mountain town is flanked by olive fields and wooded hills. In fact, such is the prolific volume of olives produced on the land surrounding Olvera that one of the highest quality olive oils in Spain is made here.<\/p>\n
Two key features of Olvera are its beautiful church and the Moorish castle, which are located next to each other.<\/p>\n
Wandering around the old town, with streets that date back around 700 years, to the square known as the Plaza de Andalusia, is a simple pleasure of being in this traditional and authentic part of Spain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
