The unspoilt beach of Xerokampos <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

South of the west coast of Crete lies the beautiful,\ntranquil and unspoilt beach of Xerokampos. In order to reach this pretty\ncoastal beach, you have to drive down winding mountain roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Xerokampos can be enjoyed to the maximum at sunrise when the\nsands really are void of people and a majestic pink hue is cast across the\nbeach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vossakos Monastery <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vossakos Monastery is another \u2018get away from it all\u2019 site on\nCrete that seems to lack the crowds of other ancient sites on the island. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The monastery can be founded nestled amid the foliage in a\nbeautiful valley on the northern coast, to the west of Heraklion. The views of\nthe gardens and verdant valley that stretch from Vossakos Monastery are\nstunning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zakros Gorge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zakros Gorge is a small but spectacular gorge situated to\nthe east of the island not far from the village of Ano Zakros and the beautiful\nbeach of Kato Zakros. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The gorge is also referred to as the \u2018Gorge of the Dead\u2019 due\nto the ancient Minoans\u2019 tendency to bury the dead in the caves carved into the\ngorge\u2019s steep cliff faces.
