One particularly laidback village on Kefalonia where time\nseems to stand still goes by the name of Assos. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tranquil village is nestled on the west coast of\nKefalonia and is part of the Erisos municipality. The village was founded under\nthe rule of the Venetians and served as the island\u2019s administrative capital of\nnorthern Kefalonia from 1593. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spend time on Assos Beach<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When spending time in Assos, visiting the village\u2019s\nbeautiful beach is quite simply a must. This small pebbly cove is caressed with\nclear, calm waters and is adjacent to the town\u2019s picturesque harbour, where\nfishing boats gently bob up and down on the water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open-air tavernas provide the perfect place to experience\nauthentic Kefalonian cuisine while enjoying the peaceful ambience of this\nbeautiful spot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit Assos Castle <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some historical enlightenment, head to Assos Castle, a Venetian fortification, which, alongside St. George\u2019s Castle, is one of the finest examples of military architecture on the island. The castle was built by the Venetians in the early 17th century to protect the island from raids bypassing pirates and Turks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assos Castle is the largest castle on Kefalonia. Straddled\non a rocky summit, the castle boasts commanding views that look down on Assos,\nits quaint harbour and pretty horseshoe bay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
