Taking place on Saturday 31st July, Wednesday 4th, and Sunday 8th August (2010 dates) &#8211; the open-air opera festival at Macerata&#8217;s Sferisterio is an absolute must. There\u2019s seating for 3,000 and you can expect <strong>&#8220;<\/strong> a grand opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carr\u00e9 from Carr\u00e9&#8217;s play &#8220;Faust et Marguerite&#8221;, which was first performed in Paris on March 19, 1859.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_908\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-908\" style=\"width: 350px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vintagetravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Sferisterio-Opera-Festival.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-908\" title=\"Sferisterio Opera Festival\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vintagetravel.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Sferisterio-Opera-Festival.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-908\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Sferisterio Opera Festival<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Alternatively if you can\u2019t make those dates don\u2019t fret&#8230; on Sunday 1st, Thursday 5th and Monday 9th August at 21:00 you can witness &#8220;I Lombardi alla prima crociata&#8221; (The Lombards on the First Crusade), an operatic dramma lirico in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Temistocle Solera.
