Client Reviews for El Tajaral

At the end of the season after some heavy rains we enjoyed lovely mild weather. The house has been very comfortable for our stay. We enjoyed our visit to Zahara during the medieval festival, the trek up to the castle is worth it! We hiked around Grazalema, and enjoyed our hike up to El Gigante here, despite a wrong turn we were finally rewarded with superb views at the summit – and no one around except the vultures. Another short trip to the Roman Ruins, imagine the spot as a thriving and strategic defensive post over 200 years ago. Lovely spot with extraordinary views!

We were very impressed with the high standards, quality and cleanliness of the property. The location and views were spectacular and with a very authentic Spanish village within 30 minutes walk we could not have asked for anything more for a perfect holiday. The sunny and warm weather every day was a bonus.

El Tajaral has more than fulfilled our expectations for the western end of the Sierra de Andalucia. Slow starts, waling properly as the trill of the cicadas begins, slumbering by the pool as the kids play and dreamily watching the Griffon Vultures glide across the mountain landscape. All of the Pueblos Blancos mentioned are fascinating, especially after having Al Andalus brought alive by Tariq Ali’s novel Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree. Being dive-bombed by surroundings at sunset with ample Rioja in hand, seeing Algarin turn amber and russet. El Gastor incredibly friendly, with superb bakery and good butchers. So much to see, so little time. Thank you.

Precious family holiday with our two grown up sons, and the villa has suited us perfectly. We never tire of the spectacular views or the comfort of our lovely surroundings. Special thanks to Georgina who welcomed us El Tajaral so warmly, providing maps, and wonderful suggestions of places to visit. One of the highlights of the week was the drive from pretty Grazalema to Zahara, stopping off at Puerto de las Palomas. Nothing prepared us for the breath-taking views that rewarded us after a short climb! The hair-pin drive down is well worth it so be brave! Day trips have been too numerous to mention, but we love El Gastor (an easy walk) and visited often. Loving the festivities of Feria and the excitement of the bull run. We also enjoyed Ronda, Olvera, Setenil, the Roman amphitheatre of Acinipo and Seville. We have loved the local hospitality and tapas and would recommend dinner on the terrace of Al Lago in Zahara. Also the wonderful surroundings of Molino del Santo.

Perfect spot for a mix of touring and relaxing! We can really recommend: Coffee in the square in Zahara on a Sunday morning as church finishes, great people watching! The views from the top of the Moorish Castle are amazing. Grazalema, which is totally charming. Great for cream cake shops! Descending the “Minas” in Ronda to find ourselves at the river at the bottom of the gorge. The Arab baths are also fabulous. The Cueva de la Pileta, bats, stalagmites and stalactites and 25,000-year-old art work. Beautiful, thought provoking and endless “wow” moments. Wrap up warm though.

The villa in El Gastor was amazing. It had everything you could want and as it was new it was luxury. We visited a few of the little white villages around the area but mainly stayed at the villa with the glorious views and pool. We walked into El Gastor a few times, although this wasn't mentioned in the write up. It takes around 30 minutes but if you're fit and well its well worth it and an easy walk. The little bars in the town are very friendly and such great value. We would definitely book with Vintage Travel again, this is our 3rd time and we are never disappointed. Thank you.
