Client Reviews for La Casiña del Picón

2 weeks spent in this lovely house & gardens by 3 generations of our family. Holiday highlights were: 1. River swimming - we had a heatwave with some days up to 40 degrees so spent alot of time at Pozas Pesqueira (easy access, lots of shade) and Pozas da Bugalleira/ de Loureza (really beautiful but the grandparents found it a bit of a scramble from the road). Clear water, great snorkelling & wildlife spotting kept the kids happy. 2. O Muino beach - pretty beach with nice boardwalk to A Guarda. Good lunch at the beach cafe, water a bit cold for swimming! 3. Monte Santa Tecla - amazing views from the top if you can get up there on a clear day. 4. Baiona - a good place for lunch and a walk round the rampart walls. 5. Portugal - we visited Caminha for a wander and a coffee with Pastel de Nata in a cafe in the square and the beach at Ancora. Both were lovely. 6. Mill walk - did this a couple fo times. Easy although steep in some places with good views and plenty of places to cool your feet in the streams. 7. Guimareas - interesting castle and pretty old town. We spent a nice day visiting here but it was a long drive. We mostly enjoyed the garden, pool and meals in the outdoor living/ dining area (with a glass or 2 on Albariño wine of course!) Thank you x

Thank you for a great stay in Galicia, we loved the house, garden and the pool. We had lots of fun in Tui, Baiona and the beach in A Guarda. As the weather was so hot we had fun going for a dip in Poza and at the top of the mills. We loved the Celtic settlement and it was very interesting kayaking on the Minho with Tamuxe Kayak, it was amazing! Altogether it was a great stay and we would love to come again. Best wishes from Scotland.

This place is everything we hoped for and more! We've enjoyed discovering this area and in particular the hills around. We brought our own mountain bikes and have not been disapointed in the many routes and tracks to explore. Big plus is the bar just down the road in the next village, with pool table, darts board and baby football. Plus sports channels! A great man 'creche'. You will thoroughly enjoy this area. We have!

Villa speaks for itself but we can recommend fresh oranges from the garden for breakfast. Fascinating to watch the mist roll up the river valley. Worth visiting locally; Baiona – lovely walk around the parador and some nice cafes, Tui – cathedral is interesting with a great view from the gardens & nice town to wander round, Monte Tegra – drive to the top for great views stopping along the route to look at the ruins. Further afield, would recommend a drive to Guimerães in Portugal – lots to see and a very quaint town. A walk to the local mills is well worth it. Enjoy your holiday – we’ve enjoyed ours.

We’ve had a blissful fortnight in this beautiful spot. Such a comfortable house in such wonderful gardens – it has been hard to drag ourselves away! Aside from the pleasure of whiling away hours reading by the pool, swimming, cooking and drinking the odd drop of cava, we’ve enjoyed walking in the area; up to the watermills, along the banks of the Minho, and at Pozas de Loureza. Baiona and Tui worth a visit too. Other highlights; the delicious fresh fish from the indoor market in O Rosal, the evening walks from the door along the myriad village paths and over to Martín, the views from all angles in the glorious gardens, the birds, the cats and the hedgehog! Thank you I’m sure we’ll be back.

Our favourites were; the mill walk – beautiful, Pozas de Loureza, hiring kayaks at Tamuxe – peaceful & lots of fish and birds – lovely scenery, Monte Trega, Baiona, O Rosal supermarket – friendly and great wine! Loved the villa and full garden! Thank you!!

As I sit here on our last night looking at the incredible view with a glass of Terras Gauda Albariño in hand, we have one big regret – that we hadn’t booked to stay for 2 weeks! La Casiña del Picón is not a holiday rental, it is a holiday home! It feels warm and loved, beautifully furnished and full of interesting books and things. The gardens are like Eden – you can find a different place to sit each day and it’s full of fantastic fruit; oranges, lemons, aprictos, plums, kiwis, mirabelles…It is so wonderful just to stay here that we didn’t do much travelling but we did manage to go to: The Cies Islands (fun boat ride, beautiful beaches but very busy!), Moledo in Portugal (great surfing beach and the best Pizza place – Hamilton), Area Grande in A Guarda (fantastic restaurant – best lobster ever & lovely sheltered beach for swimming) and Terras Guada Vineyard. Our 3 boys (15, 13 & 5) all loved the pool. Thank you so much Chiña & José, we have had the best holiday!

We all had a wonderful time in your beautiful villa. We had so much fun and excitement. We made a film, we ate the fruit, we swam in the pool, played cards and had a lot of fun in your stunning garden.

For more than 10 years we have been dreaming about this trip to Galicia. Although we are quite good dreamers, we found here several things and an atmosphere we had not foreseen in our dreams. A garden of Eden (we kept our clothes on though!) with fresh fruit, a round of small streams and beautiful views on the valley. This was beyond our dreams. What more can friends that like to dream wish for!? We have greatly enjoyed a brief yet exhilarating, comfortable and most satisfying family holiday in this most engaging villa set in the most splendid of settings we have yet encountered in our travels. This has enabled us to sample the attractions and peaceful existence which abound in Galicia – to which we must one day return as we share the Celtic roots of Gallicians. One must take advantage of visiting A Guarda, Baiona and Santiago de Compostela when in this salubrious and historic part of Galicia. We also greatly enjoyed travelling along roads with panoramic views, wild horses and the occasional fox!

La Casiña del Picón is everything we had hoped for and more! What an amazing place. We’ve had fabulous weather so daily dips in the pool and many excursions. We visited the mills, the Celtic settlement, Tui, Valença, Islas Cies from Baiona and a return trip to Caminha, which we visited last year and really liked.
