Client Reviews for Casa do Eido da Devesa

Casa do Eldo Da Devesa was one of the more lovely villas we've rented in the last number of years. My family and friends travel together as a large group every two years and have been doing this for the last 20 years. We've got a significant amount of experience in renting holiday homes. This property was one of the best properties we've ever rented. From the welcome food and wine to the attentiveness and response to our questions when needed, the host family were amazing. It is well equipped with lots of space for large groups to find their own spot to hang out at. The building is beautifully maintained and furnished. Knowing that this was the owners family home made complete sense - you could feel the love everywhere you went. All in all, a pleasure.

Thank you all so much for the most wonderful week. Your generosity did not go unnoticed - we absolutely loved the fluffy cake! The villa has been perfect for Ben and Gilbert's 30th party weekend. Marianna you were especially kind to us all. Thank you very much.

Charming and very helpful owners living next door. Beautiful location near delightful area of Northern Portugal. Good communications for exploring the region.

The villa was absolutely beautiful and perfect for our needs, the owners could not have been more helpful. They organised a cake for my husband's birthday and even brought around champagne to celebrate, they could not do enough for us. They cooked a beautiful meal on the day that we arrived and a cake later on in the week. I just wish that we could have walked to a local shop or restaurant, that was the only downside, having to use the car each time we went out but the villa could not have suited us better otherwise.

Great villa, lovely area.

We are a group of 14 wine enthusiasts who enjoy holidaying in lesser-known wine regions, and Casa do Eido fitted our requirements perfectly. The 8 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms were very comfortable, and most had stunning views. The house itself is full of character, with a well-equipped kitchen and massive dining room, but the star of the show is the exterior of the villa - a superb (and warm) pool surrounded by comfortable loungers, chairs and breathtaking mountain views, an immaculate garden and a beautiful shady and scented flower-covered pergola to eat under - and of course, to taste the local wines! It is possible to take walks in the nearby pine and eucalyptus woods from the house if you stay off the main road, or to do some more serious hiking in the Penedes Geres National Park. Ponte de Lima itself is a delight, and should be in anyone's list of Top 10 Towns! It has a lovely riverside setting, with numerous gardens, river walks, festivals (but don't stand too near the fountains for the Vacas das Cordas!), restaurants (our favourite was Petiscas, on the north bank of the river, just across the old bridge), several supermarkets, a Monday market with wonderful flowers and plants and lots of opportunities for just pottering about. The more energetic can hire bikes to ride along cycleways either side of the river. Nearby are numerous historic towns full of quiet pleasures, on the coast or along the local rivers, and the wild flowers in spring are amazing. Further afield, Porto is worth at least a day, as is a river trip from Pinhao on the upper Duoro to see the prestigious port estates and steep slopes covered in vines. There is also a train ride along the river, but a bit less leisurely than the boat! The wine of the Minho region is mostly white - the slightly spritzy but eminently quaffable vinho verde, made to drink young, but with some alvarinhos also made for keeping. Red wines from the Dao and Douro are readily available, as are the various styles of port (try white port with tonic water and ice, very refreshing) and all the wines (and indeed all the food and other goods) are incredibly good value. Finally, a word about our hosts at Casa do Eido, who live next door, and are extremely kind, caring but never intrusive. Daughter Marianna speaks excellent English, and her parents have just opened a cafe down the road in the village which stocks basic provisions and is a good place to pop in for an ice cream on the way back to the villa! Bread can be delivered fresh each morning by arrangement. All in all, we had a superb time. None of us had visited this region of Portugal before, but we all came home with a wish to return again before too long! A complete delight, and a wine lover's paradise!

We were eleven in total and this villa perfectly suited our needs. The building is clearly very well cared for and it was immaculate and equipped with everything we needed including a fabulous pool and patio space. The owners were charming and very helpful. Their daughter's English is better than mine and she did most of the communication with us. Our family goes to Europe every year and we always rent large villas like this one. We have seen quite a few in many counties but this one was at or near the top of our list of best liked. Thanks to Vintage (the most professional rental company we have ever dealt with) and the owners! We loved it!

An ideal venue for a large party. The owners were extremely helpful but discrete. Nothing was too much trouble: they provided meals, cleaning services, etc. when requested. Their daughter spoke perfect English, which was a real boon.

The pool is fabulous as is the outside eating area. There is a good selection of bedrooms (enough to suit everyone. Generally would recommend this house for a large family group. Kayaking in Ponte de Lima is great fun, also best place to go to for supermarkets (there are two). This is a great region of Portugal to go to if you want to avoid the tourist track

We were the first visitors this season and any minor problems that we had were all resolved within 24 hours. Great location for all the family with facilities on site and 3 motorways giving rapid access to beaches, National Park (mountain) and medieval towns.
