Client Reviews for Casa do Lagar

Wow, we have been lucky enough to find a small piece of heaven on earth. We have very busy lives and came here to relax and we have certainly done that. The house is so comfortable and the feeling of peace when you are settled in is wonderful. The grounds are stunning and a testimony to the love and hard work put in from João and Teresa. Thank you so much for the allowing us to experience your home, it has been truly wonderful.

We were made very welcome by Teresa and João on our arrival. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Casa do Lagar with its interesting furniture and its beautiful garden. The agapanthus were in full blood and the canopy of trees provided a sense of isolation and relaxation on the very hot days when we used the pool to cool down. Casa do Lagar was a lovely place to return to after our visits to Guimerães, Bom Jesus and Ponte de Lima (delightful). Obrigado!

We have had a very relaxing holiday in Casa do Lagar. When the sun shines, it is a magical retreat. We have loved the peace and tranquillity around the pool and the coolness of inside. It is also a great location to explore Northern Portugal; our favourite visit was to Guimerães. We enjoyed the Vinho Verde, a perfect wine for a perfect holiday location.

What a fabulous week we’ve had! The grounds are stunning – we’ve enjoyed just wandering around – and the pool has been blissful – a beautiful sun trap to relax and get away from it all. We have loved the local area – Braga, Guimerães, Ponte de Lima and more…Porto really deserves a couple of days at least (don’t miss São Francisco or the Palace next to it!) The villa has been well equipped and comfortable – Thank you Teresa & João for your welcome and advice and thank you Rosa for your unobtrusive watch over the place. Think we need to return at some point and would happily recommend Casa do Lagar to anyone.

We’ve had a lovely holiday here in Casa do Lagar. Meeting Teresa and João and hearing about the history of the house, it is very that the renovation work has been a labour of love for them. We have been fortunate to enjoy beautiful weather and it’s not been easy to leave this lovely house to see the sights of this very nice part of Portugal. We managed a day to Braga and also ventured to Ponte de Lima which is a delightful town. Guimerães is not to be missed and we highly recommend Hotel da Oliveira, where we stayed on our way here. Thank you to Teresa, João and Rosa for all they do to create such a memorable experience for their guests.

We have had a wonderful week at the villa, doing very little but swimming and reading which has been very relaxing. All our needs have been catered for in this well-equipped villa. We have cooked prawns from the local supermarkets and eaten at Velho Vinho in Povoa de Lanhoso which is very good. The local bakery is top class and we went most days to enjoy Pastel de Nata and coffee and buy excellent bread. A lovely week in a beautiful part of Portugal!

Dear Teresa and João. We couldn’t have asked for a more enjoyable time than we had at your house. The house, the gardens and pool were marvellous! It exceeded our expectations. You have an ideal home where we could feel your love and tasteful attention to all details on every step. I don’t think we’ll ever forget it. We would love to come back and experience more in your house and country. Please say a very special thank you to Rosa for keeping the garden so beautiful. Muito Obrigado! With very best regards

Over recent years, we have stayed in about 40 houses and Casa do Lagar is definitely in the top 5! It has character, set in a beautiful garden, very comfortable and wonderfully relaxing. On many days we simply stayed here reading, snoozing, swimming, eating and drinking, just enjoying its charm. We had some good days out to Viana do Castelo, Ponte da Barca and the Citania at Briteiros. One great success was taking the bus (we got a timetable from the Povoa de Lanhoso tourist office) which meant we could get around without worrying about parking. We also visited Lanhoso castle; great little museum and amazing views. Two super weeks. Thanks to Teresa, João and Rosa for making us so welcome.

The pictures of Casa do Lagar are stunning & beautiful, and that is why I chose here for a much needed holiday. Yet, they fail to tell of the essence & peace that settle around your shoulders like a gossamer blanket as soon as you pass through the gates. It is immediately obvious that this is a loving cherished home, & to be able to share its warmth is a privilege. Thank you.

Dear Joao and Teresa. Thank you for a super week in your lovely villa. We had the added bonus of an unseasonal heatwave for 4 days and really appreciated the pool and all the various carefully thought out sun bathing and shaded areas. BBQ was a great success. We particularly enjoyed the ancient hill town of Citânia de Briteiros, and it was well worth waiting for the associated museum (in the nearby village) to open at 2pm, with its fascinating glimpse of daily life in the ancient city. Guimarães is a lovely old town, we especially liked the Paço dos Duques de Bragança and had a very good lunch at Restaurante Buxa. Already planning next year!
