Let the children play in their very own outdoor "kitchen",
while mum and dad prepare the BBQ close by.

Visit the market held on Friday and Saturday mornings on the main square in Ciutadella.
A good place for buying gifts, or that extra item of clothing you forgot to bring.

Instead of doing all your shopping in a supermarket,
go to the food market in a side street near the Cathedral. Especially good for fresh fish.

A day's sailing along the coast
Book a day with Pere Vallera on his two masted 50' yacht, sailing to some of the more secluded coves on the Menorcan coast, to snorkel and swim off the boat before having a simple but delicious lunch on board. Pere is a charming host who speaks excellent English and, with only 12 of you on board, it is a lovely relaxing day. (Booked by Tracey). Marriott family July 2010

Stroll around the old town centre,
taking your street guide with you, and enjoy all the lovely old buildings, especially the Cathedral and the Town Hall.

Do the same thing at night,
and enjoy the lively cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Walk down the "Paseo de San Nicolas" to the far end,
and visit the old defence tower. Next to it see the statue of Admiral David Glasgow Farragut (yes, that was really his name) who was born of ex-patriot "Ciudadellenc" parents, and became the first Admiral of the Fleet of the United States.

See the coast from a different vantage point
by taking a half day cruise from Cala en Bosc or Ciutadella. It is a good way to see some of the less accessible coves. Alternatively, hire a small motor boat yourself in Cala en Bosc.

On the new south ringroad, follow signs to Lithica - Pedreres de S'Hostal.
This is the old stone quarry , and is very deep. Follow the pathway around its depths, and look out for the auditorium, where concerts are held from time to time on summer evenings.

especially Sa Naveta des Tudons, the oldest roofed building in Europe.

Hire a bike
and explore Ses Mongetes or follow some of the clearly marked cycle routes that can be seen all over Menorca. Maps can be picked up from the Tourist offices and there are routes to suit all levels. The Cami d`en Kane is a great route to take by bike as this ancient and well preserved track meanders through the picturesque heartland of the Island.

Drive out of Ciutadella along the main road towards the little town of Ferreries.
Just before the town centre, on the right, take the road leading to Cala Galdana. After about 1.5 km on the left you come to Es Martorellet, where an equestrian show is performed on two evenings per week. This is a chance to see the famous black Menorcan horses performing as at the Fiestas, and much more. Booking advisable.

Carry on down this road to the resort of Cala Galdana, with its wide sandy beach,
and a selection of cafes for lunch.

Starting opposite the H. Audax at Cala Galdana,
is a walk through the woods and across fields to the unspoilt beaches of Macarella and Macarelleta, where you can enjoy a swim and sunbathe without cars and hotels.

Visit Ferreries
where you will find a surprising number of sophisticated boutiques and restaurants. This is the place to go if you want to buy the traditional Menorcan sandals, `abarcas`. Visit the main square on Saturday mornings and buy local produce at the lively farmer`s market.

From the roundabout at the edge of Ferreries,
follow the signs to "San Patrici", where you can sample and buy their traditionally made cheese, and their own label wine.
