Hire a Kayak and explore the coastal caves and bays
Hire a kayak for half a day from the beach at Tamariu, and head into the beautiful bays and inlets to the north between Tamariu and Aiguablava. Explore the secluded beaches and the sea cliff caves, including the amazing Cova de'n Gispert, the largest and deepest of the caves.
Snorkel Safari from L'Estartit
Take a boat trip and snorkel safari from L'Estartit out to the Illes Medes nature reserve. Swim with the fish in a crystal clear warm waters.
Visit the spectacular Greek and Roman settlement of Empuries
Then enjoy a lunch of fresh anchovies from L'Escala - a local speciality. On the way back, visit the pre-roman Iberian settlement of Ullastret and see how life was 2,500 years ago compared to today's world!
Go for a day trip to Figueres and visit the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres

Learn to windsurf or rent a catamaran at Pals beach.
If you are up for a challenge, have a go at kitesurfing - a new sport where a small kite is attached to a surfboard allowing spectacular pirouettes and high speeds.
Visit the medieval castle of Begur
then have an evening stroll around the old quarter and explore the many stalls selling jewellery and handicrafts.
Drive a few miles inland
and visit the many ancient stone villages that make up what is known as the "Golden Triangle". Stop for lunch at the Restaurant L'Arc Vell in Peratallada and enjoy a meal in the confines of its peaceful walled courtyard. After lunch visit the fascinating farm museum in the tiny village of Palau Sator
Visit the pottery town of La Bisbal
and purchase some handmade ceramics to take back home. Friday is a good day to visit as there is a colourful market - or perhaps explore some of the numerous antique shops.
Drive up through the pine trees
to the 15th century hermitage and lighthouse of Sant Sebastià which sits above the delightful bay of Llafranc and enjoy the breathtaking views out across the Mediterranean. The restaurant here, 'El Far' has an excellent reputation for serving fine, local cuisine.
Visit the Sunday morning Market at Palafrugell
and soak up the atmosphere with a drink in the main square. Later visit the magnificent wine store of Jordi Grau and enjoy a glass of wine with a "tapa".
Take a boat trip with "Paco Boats" in Tamariu
and visit the famous cave "Cova d'en Gispert". Stop off at La Pedrosa bay and snorkel in the crystal clear waters. Tel: 607 29 25 78.
Take a packed lunch and follow one of the coastal pathways
that skirt the rugged coastline between Calella and Sa Tuna, stopping every now and then at one of the many hidden coves to swim and snorkel.
Walk amongst all kinds of exotic Mediterranean flora
at the Botanical Gardens of Cap Roig where you get magnificent panoramic views of the coastline that stretches from Calella to the cliffs of Cap Roig.
Visit the fabulous city of Girona for the day,
taking in the beautifully restored Jewish Quarter, the Arab Baths, the cathedral, its museums and the many shops. Why not pay a visit to Cacao Sampaka, C/Santa Clara, 45 to indulge in the finest products using chocolate - cakes, drinks, spreads, ice creams to name a few!
Visit the wine cellar of Mas Oller
(on the outskirts of Torrent) for a wine tasting. Then pop into the village and visit the Jam Museum on the Plaça Major. Tel: 972 30 47 44.
Horse riding is available at Canapost

Visit the Sobrestany Wildlife Park,
near Bellcaire, and drive through and feed the many different animals that include llamas, deer, goats etc.
For the motor sport enthusiasts visit the Circuit de Catalunya,
just off Exit 13 of the AP7. Guided tours are available to include entry to the paddock, the control tower, the podium, for example. www.circuitcat.com. Maybe the ladies could indulge in some retail therapy at the same time at the nearby outlet shopping centre La Roca Village. www.LaRocaVillage.com

Play a round of golf!
There are many excellent and renowned golf courses in the area, including Golf Playa de Pals (Tel: 972 66 77 39), Golf Serres de Pals, (972 63 73 75) or Gualta (972 76 04 50), www.empordagolf.es
Drive to the centre of Begur and climb up to the castle
from where there are far reaching views. The most noteworthy are those towards the Medes Islands, long ago a refuge for pirates and smugglers, although today they are famous as a marine nature reserve. As you wander around Begur take special note of the houses of the 'Indianos', the design of which has been influenced by the young people of Begur who emigrated to the Americas, mainly in search of riches. Those who returned left their stamp on the architecture of the town - one such example overlooks the small car park area near the church.
