Hollowed steps lead down to the shaded patio at the front of the villa, wonderfully cool, with a barbecue and dining area. In times gone by, the owners’ parents rested here in the shade of the greengage tree (Tzaneria is Greek for greengage), after picking the fruit for jams and preserves.

Entering the villa, one is captivated by the amazing vistas offered by the huge picture window that dominates the living area. The rustic style dining area to the left sets the scene, then three steps down, the relaxed ambience starts to work, with comfy sofas and a traditional coffee table inviting one to simply sit and enjoy the views. A balcony offers an ideal spot for lazy breakfasts.

Tucked away above the kitchen, in keeping with the informal atmosphere of this rural idyll, a wooden platform with mattresses and cushions evokes the air of a Ottoman salon. The bedroom is light and airy with another large window framing the superb scenery so inspiring to wake up to. A wooden door opens onto a raised patio where hours can be spent listening to birdsong and appreciating nature while, to the left is the inviting swimming pool and patio.

Aghios Konstantinos (2km) is the nearest sandy beach with a couple of tavernas (2km), and Glysteri beach (4km) is also just a short drive away. At the top of the town, the suburb of Kastro (2km) has a mini-market for essentials. Skopelos harbour (3km) is well worth exploring, and there is a good selection of tavernas, shops, coffee bars and restaurants not only on the harbour front but graduating up into the hillsides. The town itself is full of narrow cobbled streets and tiny churches. Behind Tzaneria Tree the many footpaths and walks leading through tiny deserted hamlets and around ancient farmsteads provide a gentle reminder of days gone by.

Villa rental includes private return taxi from Skiathos airport to the ferry port and ferry crossing to/from Skopelos
