Hollowed steps lead down to the shaded patio at the front of the villa, wonderfully cool, with a barbecue and dining area. In times gone by, the owners’ parents rested here in the shade of the greengage (tzaneria) tree, after picking the fruit to make preserves.

Entering the villa your eye is instantly drawn to the amazing vistas offered by the huge picture window that dominates the living area. A rustic style dining area to the left sets the scene then, three steps down, comfy sofas and a traditional coffee table invite one to simply relax and enjoy those views (the balcony, here, makes an ideal spot for lazy breakfasts).

Light and airy, the bedroom has another large window framing the superb scenery, so inspiring to wake up to in the morning. A wooden door opens onto a raised patio where hours can be spent listening to birdsong and appreciating nature while, to the left is the inviting swimming pool and terrace.

Aghios Konstantinos, with a couple of tavernas, is the nearest beach (2km) while Glysteri Beach (4km) is also just a short drive away. At the top of the town, the suburb of Kastro (2km) has a mini-market for everyday essentials.

Skopelos harbour (3km) is well worth exploring as there is an excellent selection of tavernas, shops, coffee bars and restaurants not only on the harbour front but graduating up into the hillside behind. The town is a fascinating maze of narrow cobbled streets, family-run shops and tiny, semi-hidden churches. Behind Tzaneria Tree itself, the many footpaths and walks leading through tiny deserted hamlets and around ancient farmsteads offer a gentle reminder of days gone by.

Villa rental includes private return taxi from Skiathos airport to the ferry port and ferry crossing to/from Skopelos
