Mas Noguer 4 Bedrooms | 3 Bathrooms | WiFi | Fenced Pool | Sleeps 8
Sitting amidst picturesque countryside on the outskirts of the medieval village of La Pera, just a 250m walk from the local restaurant and shop, this attractive 18th Century residence is a superb example of a lovingly restored Catalan ‘masia’.
Charm and character can be found in abundance within its ancient walls. Exposed timber beams, sloping ceilings, low doorways and battened clay under-roofing are just some of the many traditional features that combine so pleasingly with the welcoming details and creature comforts of what has for many years been a much loved family home.
The one-time manger is now an eye-catching dining room with a glorious vaulted ceiling whilst the kitchen retains a rustic country charm with its traditional open fireplace and original terracotta floor tiles. Outside, shaded dining/ sitting areas, spacious sun terraces and a lush established garden and lawn surround a larger than average private swimming pool which has been thoughtfully fenced to give added peace of mind to parents with younger children.
This beautiful corner of Catalunya is widely recognised for its peace and rural ambience whilst at the same time being temptingly close to the stunning unspoilt coastline. It is easy to see why it has been such a haven for artists since the far-reaching views from Mas Noguer encompass the most scenic of landscapes. Look out across the garden and you will see the picturesque hamlet of Púbol and the 11th Century castle that Salvador Dalí bought and restored in 1969. Now home to a quirky museum, it offers a fascinating insight into the life and times of Dalí and his wife Gala.
An evening stroll along country lanes provides a perfect opportunity to admire the gently rolling pastures of the Baix Empordà. Delightful stone villages such as Rupiá and Madremanya dot the area and share a selection of excellent restaurants that pride themselves on the quality of their local cuisine. Just 10km away is the famous pottery town of La Bisbal whilst the wonderful sandy beaches of Aigua Blava, Tamariu and Llafranc are all within a 25 – 30 minute drive. Just inland, the cobbled stone alleyways, old Jewish quarter and Michelin starred restaurant of historic Girona are well worth a visit.
We mention out of courtesy that the housekeepers live in adjacent quarters accessed via a completely independent entrance. With the exception of the parking area they do not use any of the facilities of Mas Noguer and your privacy is completely assured.
