Regularly awarded the coveted Blue Flag for high standards of water quality and environmental awareness, lovely Levrechio Beach (250m) beguiles visitors with its gentle curve and verdant backdrop of cypress trees; pellucid shallow waters turn to aquamarine as the blue sky meets the pristine tiny white pebbles. It is just a short stroll from Kalliopi down to the beach where families, in particular, will appreciate the opportunity for their little ones to paddle in the gently shelving waters, whilst older siblings enjoy snorkelling or exploring the rock pools.
Perched above the beach and, with Thalia and Klio, one of only three properties to occupy this privileged position, Kalliopi’s beige stone façade is strikingly set against a background of olive trees and dense vegetation. Dining al fresco on the covered terrace is a delight, especially at sunset, as the moon shines over the silver sea below.
Immensely welcoming and thoughtfully designed, the chic simple styling effortlessly creates a relaxed ambience both inside and out. Large windows in the living room allow light to flood in while a cream and magnolia-coloured décor accentuates the feeling of space and peace. A plump sofa sits in front of the fireplace, a Provençal-influenced coffee table, writing desk and chair complementing the unpretentious cream kitchen units and dining suite; the terrace in front proffers an inspirational panorama of sea, sky, beach and limitless horizon.
Upstairs the twin bedroom has a soothing palette of pastels and taupe, the double bedroom has equally eye-catching splashes of colour plus a pretty four poster bed. Both bedrooms have en suite shower rooms and balconies that enhance those views still further.
Just a fifteen minute walk, Loggos (750m) is an artist's dream. Pastel coloured houses and shops are arranged around a pretty harbour, location for the most picturesque of small shops, ‘kafenions’, bars and tavernas, with tables and chairs spilling out onto the quayside. This tiny waterfront village is a gem, appealing to all who want a calm uncomplicated holiday: swimming, messing about on boats and discovering the coastal paths remain the most popular occupations.
Travelling further afield, Kipos and Marmari are small coves close to Loggos only accessible on foot or by boat, Monodendri between Loggos and Lakki has water sports on the beach and an excellent taverna with a swimming pool while the rambling streets and picturesque harbour at the island capital Gaios is very well worth a visit.
If you prefer to stay closer to home, it is hard to beat Loggos at night where minimal motor traffic impacts on the restful ambience of subdued laughter, soft hum of conversation and gentle murmuring of the water... before the owls and night jars sing you homewards.
