With a calming, restful ambience and oodles of character, Dorethea is a wonderful country retreat neatly tucked away in a verdant landscape of cypress and fir trees. And we cannot speak highly enough of the views! From the first moment of arrival at this stylish cottage the magnificent panoramic vista down to the sandy beach of Ai Jerusalem and out across the glittering Ionian sea to the undulating Paliki peninsula is spellbinding.

This is a picture-perfect spot for admiring the sweeping seascape… and capturing the essence of al fresco living. From the generous open and shaded terraces around the property delightful vistas emerge from so many angles; particularly from the large sun terrace on the upper level where striking chequered pink and white tiles set the scene for long lingering breakfasts or equally languid dinners watching the mesmerising sunsets.

Stepping inside you will find a living area with comfy sofas, a charming chandelier and an archway inviting you through to the practical and roomy kitchen/diner; a handsome twin bedroom and a bathroom complete the accommodation on this level.

Upstairs the en suite double bedroom has an attractive wrought iron bedstead and direct access to two splendid outdoor areas, a private balcony looking out over Ai Jerusalem Beach as well as the aforementioned large sun terrace from where steps conveniently lead down to the grounds and pool area.

The creation of Dorethea has been a true labour of love for the owner who has faithfully respected the centuries’ old customs of his ancestors by decorating the house façade ochre and white (the traditional colours of Kefalonia) and investing many hours enhancing the interior walls and tiles with pretty hand-painted motifs. Surrounding Dorothea dense, verdant vegetation encourages privacy. To one side the pool area offers an abundance of space in which to spread out and relax in the sunshine while pergola-shaded terracing in front of the living area provides an additional dining location.

The nearest beaches also happen to be two of the island's most attractive, Alaties (5km) and Ai Jerusalem (7km); considered a bit of a 'local secret',  the latter is an appealing cove that remains laid back even in the height of summer. Here you will find a small family-run taverna where dishes are often chosen by popping straight into the kitchen to see, first-hand, what ‘Mama’ has cooked fresh that day.

Maganos (3.8km) with several tavernas, two excellent supermarkets and a gentle calming atmosphere is an easy drive, whilst Fiscardo's bustling  harbour (6km) offers all amenities including a vast choice of bustling waterside tavernas and bars.

Please note: Due to the wooded environs barbecues are not permitted. A low wall to one side of the grounds means that younger children may need supervision.
