La Bruguera de Púbol 5 Bedrooms | 4 Bathrooms | Table Tennis | WiFi | Gated Pool Area | Heated Pool | Restaurant 1.2 km | Sleeps 10
Just 25 minutes by car from the picturesque fishing villages of Llafranc, Tamaríu and Sant Martí d’Empuries, this stunning country estate consists of 9 acres of oak and pine forest and gardens, and a large villa and pool, nestled in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Baix Emporda, 1.2km from the ancient stone hamlet of Púbol, renowned for its restaurant and Dalí museum.
Home of the celebrated Catalan artist Francesc d’Assis Casademont, this hidden retreat was undoubtedly a source of inspiration, surrounded as it is by dense woodland, interspersed with winding footpaths, follies, and a variety of secluded spots. Wandering through its landscaped and in parts wild grounds, you will find a babbling brook, spilling into various fish and lily ponds, a quiet leafy glen, a gazebo in which to take afternoon tea, a wooden picnic table set under a canopy of pines, a natural wooden children’s play area, and a Gaudí-style fountain surrounded by benches, set under oaks.
Designed in the ‘Le Corbusier’ style, the ground floor is given over to a spacious open plan kitchen/living area that connects to a capacious dining room with full height glazed patio doors opening onto the lush gardens and pool. In addition, the partially glazed ceiling brings the Mediterranean forest in to the dining room, ensuring you will leave having experienced a holiday immersed in the beauty of nature. Whimsical touches such as the forest follies, the crenelated tower housing the bedrooms, and the campanile will be enjoyed by all who stay here.
You may choose to spend your time simply relaxing by the pool, walking the grounds or exploring the olive groves, hills, vineyards, paths and forests surrounding the property. You can walk to the medieval village of Púbol (1.2km), visit the Gala & Salvador Dalí Castle Museum, or the renowned Restaurant Can Bosch, or one of two children’s playgrounds in the hamlet. There are many other medieval, Roman and Iberian villages nearby, with beautiful stone architecture, ruins, restaurants and museums. Ullastret and Peretallada are particularly beautiful. A host of beaches are within 25 minutes, from long, open, urban beaches, to secluded little coves – all with crystalline waters.
Shopping can be done in the local grocery store in La Pera (where there is also a café / bar in the main church square) 2.6km from the house, in the supermarket in Corçà (4km), or the weekly Friday street market, or hypermarkets in La Bisbal d’Empordà (8km). Girona, with its incredible hillside old town, is only a 12 minute train journey from nearby Flaça (6km), and Catalunya's cosmopolitan capital, Barcelona, is only 1 hour away.
