With stunning sea views across the fertile valley, Paleokastro is named after the ancient castle situated on a spit of land that forms Navarino Bay and is part of the scenic Gialova Lagoon; a pastoral landscape of fields, orchards, groves and cypress trees stretching out below the property, a lovely sight, particularly early evening as the sun sets.

All of this can be fully admired from your private pool and elevated dining terrace before strolling down the gentle hillside to Gialova's tavernas, shops and coffee bars just 900m away.

An impressive stone exterior is hewn from local granite with thick walls keeping the cottage cool in the summer heat. Bouganvillea and yucca trees greet the visitor at the front door while shrubs and sweet-smelling lavender provide a clourful backdrop for relaxing around the pool and enjoying the restful ambience.

Looking out over the pool, the contemporary double bedroom and modern, open plan living area both open onto a dining terrace with retractable awning for shade. This is an excellent spot in which to enjoy breakfast or an evening aperiftif whilst gazing at the sweeping panorama and far-reaching views that reveal the massive bay of Voidokilia, a perfect semi-circle of broad sandy beach.

Surrounded by valleys laddered with ravines, small rivers and general rustic spledour, the beaches of Romanou, the Ionian Sea, and Voidokilia itself all provide a rich tapestry of historical facts (as well as countless fascinating myths and legends).

It was in this area, according to Greek mythology, that Hermes, messenger of the Gods, hid the cows he had stolen from his brother Apollon. When Apollon found this out, Hermes, to avoid argument, gave his brother a lyre he had made from the shell of a sea turtle. Today Caretta-Caretta turtles still visit regularly, the big sand dunes around the Voidokilia crescent offering shelter and an ideal environment in which their eggs can incubate.

Nature lovers have so much to enjoy here. Paths winding between lemon groves lead to the spectacular Kalamari Falls, a mighty waterfall that gushes down fearsome-looking rocks and the expansive lagoon of Gialova is home of countless species of indigenous and migratory birdlife.

Please note: *Due to the wooded environs barbecues are not permitted in July and August.
