Boasting superb sea views, Arethusa looks out from its spacious pool patio over the panoply of fields, olive groves and forests to the gentle curve of Mounda Bay (3km). This splendid country house is conveniently close to the hamlet of Ratzakli with its small taverna, very handy for a traditional Greek meze!

Greeting the visitor on arrival, a profusion of fuchsia-coloured bougainvillea accompanies the dusky rose façade and terracotta tiled terrace. The infinity-edged swimming pool, seamlessly merging sea and sky on the horizon, creates a splash of blue from virtually every vista and the temptation to relax and absorb the remarkable panorama (with an occasional dip in the cooling waters) is irresistible!

Contemporary, modern décor complements the exposed stone walls of the open plan living/dining area. A compact kitchen sits alongside the tasteful dining space and each bedroom has an en suite shower room plus a balcony or terrace from which to admire the gorgeous views all around the property. Stylish and airy, this comfortable house also has a gently relaxing ambience created by the distant sound of the sea and soft tinkle of goat bells.

Ratzakli hamlet below Arethusa (little more than a few houses plus a simple and popular taverna) is situated between Katelios (3.5km) a traditional fishing village with some excellent seafood restaurants and Skala (3km) a much larger village with a vast choice of shops, tavernas, kafenions and bars. Argostoli, the island capital, has a wonderful open market for fresh produce early in the morning, and plenty of kafenions in the main square to 'people watch'.

Mounda and Kaminia beaches (3km) are beautifully unspoilt sandy stretches that extend to the tip of the peninsula and which, after a couple of kilometres of rugged coastline, eventually meet up with Skala beach (3km), providing a great location for exploring southern Kefalonia. Heading further afield, Drogonati Cave, Melissani Lake and Mount Ainos are eye-catching natural phenomena that deserve attention and there are over three hundred laid-back local villages, many with beautiful centuries' old churches, just waiting to be discovered.
