Casolare Cortona 6 Bedrooms | 4 Bathrooms | WiFi | Small Party Rate | Sleeps 12
The enchanting town of Cortona is one of our favourite destinations in Tuscany, never failing to delight when we visit. Perched on the hillside, the cluster of stone houses and narrow streets lead to the main piazza where people congregate to enjoy a morning cappuccino or an evening aperitif. A scenic drive (11km) along country lanes takes you from this quintessential Tuscan town to Casolare Cortona in the valley below.
Its location within easy reach of Cortona is, without doubt, appealing but large groups of friends or sharing families will also be attracted to the spacious grounds at Casolare Cortona. Bordered by trees and hedges, the combination of a glorious expanse of lawn, an age-old olive grove, colourful flowers, and a number of pergolas providing shaded seating areas, means outdoor living is particularly easy and attractive. The large swimming pool has a 'beach style' area, perfect for keeping your feet cool, and Roman steps for easy access. A rose lined path links the pool area to the wide terrace with its focus on outdoor dining.
The interior is simple and unpretentious in style, with traditional elements, such as terrazzo and tiled flooring, and the unusual feature of the original horse manger.
Casolare Cortona is situated on the edge of a small hamlet in the Val di Chiana, almost equidistant between Perugia in Umbria and Siena in Tuscany, with Lake Trasimeno a short drive away for water sports and boat trips. A good selection of restaurants can be found in Cortona, the perfect place for an early evening stroll followed by dinner. Closer to home, there is a minimarket in Fratticciola. For those wishing to explore further afield, Rome and Florence are easily accessible by rail from the local station at Terentola or Camucia.
The owner’s mother lives in a cottage behind the property.
