The combination of a pale apricot façade framed with powder blue shutters, rambling roses and olive trees provides a charming welcome on arrival at Les Romarins. This pretty Provençal villa sits within a spacious garden that will delight all with its profusion of shrubs, flowers, herbs and rockeries set in stone walled borders around an expanse of lawn. Edging the terrace are tall palm trees, evoking exotic climes or slightly closer to home, the palm lined Promenade des Anglais in Nice (50mins).
From the terraces, one partly shaded, you enter inside where a tranquil, peaceful atmosphere prevails. A subtle neutral palette of colours combines well with classic tiled floors, light voile curtains and stylish furniture. The sleeping accommodation lends itself particularly well to families of mixed age groups. Of note is that one bedroom has a raised bed whilst the mezzanine area has a double bed, so both may be best suited to teenagers.
Take the winding country lane (for 2km) past similar properties and you arrive in St Cézaire sur Siagne, a charming village with a medieval centre and a good selection of amenities, including restaurants. Its narrow streets lead to small squares and fountains and beyond to the vantage point where you are rewarded with sweeping, stunning views over the forested valley and beyond to the villages of Montauroux and Mons, the Esterel Massif and the Bay of St Tropez. Just beyond the village are the Grottes de St Cézaire, caves with fantastic formations in all shapes and a cool option on a hot day. Further afield, water based activities can be indulged at Lake St Cassien (20km) where pedaloes and kayaks are available to hire, or why not visit the Île Ste Marguerite with its unspoilt natural pine forests and beaches, just 15 minutes' boat trip from Cannes.
Open stairs leading up from the living room to the mezzanine mean that younger children may need supervision.
