Surrounded by vineyards, the town of Gaillac has forever been intertwined with wine, from the Romans, who planted one of the first vineyards here, to the Benedictine monks who produced and transported the wine from the Abbey on the banks of the River Tarn.  Today, people travel from afar to sample the quality wines in this bustling town with its warm red brick buildings now home to shops, restaurants and museums.

    La Cour

In the heart of this lovely town we discovered La Cour, a townhouse with its own private swimming pool.  Ideally located in one of the side streets radiating from the centre, it is a short walk (300m) to a tree lined square with cafes and restaurants and a further 400m through the old town to the Abbey St Michel in all its glory on the banks of the river.  Even closer, there is a restaurant at the end of the street!

Its façade hides surprisingly spacious accommodation over three floors.  A contemporary kitchen leads through to a dining room with a traditional fireplace and warm red walls.  There are quirky features throughout from a telephone box and bar in the living room to the artwork on the walls.  Doors open out onto the rear courtyard, where there is space for a swimming pool and terrace, as well as table tennis on the upper level.

With amenities, museums and markets on the doorstep, a week could pass by without use of the car, especially as there are regular trains to Albi (20mins) and Toulouse (40mins).  But take a day to explore the bastide towns of the area and, of course, at least a day along one of the many wine routes to discover the Gaillac wines.

  • There is free parking in the street (subject to space) and a car park nearby (350m).
  • Please note maximum capacity is for six people.
