Tucked away in the sleepy hamlet of Mofardini, a few kilometres from the historic town of Sveti Lovrec, this very generously proportioned house is built of gleaming Istrian stone which contrasts most attractively with the striking, bright blue window shutters.
Clearly defined living space on the ground floor comprises a separate kitchen with a long, wide sitting/dining room adjacent. Terracotta tiled floors, exposed stone and white washed walls give a cool and airy ambience while ample angular archways encourage the rooms to flow effortlessly from one side of the house to the other, further enhancing the already spacious feel.
Double glass doors from the dining room lead onto the front covered terrace whilst a further dining area with barbecue, shaded by a vine-covered pergola, is accessed from the kitchen.
A curved stone stairway leads up to the three bedrooms. All are oak floored with vaulted beamed ceilings and there are two terraces from which to admire the distant sea views, one off the principal bedroom, the other a traditionally Croatian ‘baladur’ (raised terrace) with external staircase to the garden and accessed from the landing.
Outside, the main lawns at the front of the house are split over two separate levels with the private pool on the lower level, smartly flanked by a herringbone-style brick surround.
It is a five minute drive to the amenities of Sveti Lovrec whose main square boasts an attractive 11th Century church and a 14th Century loggia. Picturesque Vrsar and lively Porec (both within 25km) provide a wide range of restaurants and shops as well as a popular stretch of coastline between Plava Laguna and Zelena Laguna. Here, the scenic path, partially shaded by umbrella pines, which runs along the rocky water’s edge between the two headlands is a particular favourite with walkers, joggers and cyclists.
