Having taken a break of one year we are thrilled to once again include Amfitriti in our rental portfolio. With dramatic and sweeping sea views to enjoy from the pool terrace, Amfitriti has long been one of our most popular houses for a peaceful break in an attractive private setting. Over recent years many honeymooners and celebrating couples, as well as individuals looking to read, write or paint, have all enjoyed visits here.

Thoughtful design has seen the creation of an inviting open space that merges the living, dining and kitchen areas together, a dedicated sleeping area sitting to one side with a queen-size bed, spa bath, shower and private cloakroom alongside. The décor, a combination of vivid and pastel shades, harmonises perfectly with the property’s natural stone walls and is a lovely example of how traditional Cretan architecture can also be given a considered, contemporary feel.

Just a 3 minute walk away is a small taverna, which serves delicious home cooked meals every evening and arrangements can be made locally to have supper delivered directly to your door. This is a lovely option as one of the highlights of any holiday at Amfitriti is the simple pleasure of dining on your poolside terrace as the sun sets over the sea.

For added variety two more tavernas are found in the Livadia area, each within a 10 minute drive, and  the nearest mini market is 5km away on the road to the Elafonissi lagoon.

The south west of Crete is widely considered one of the finest spots on this wonderfully sunny island in which to completely and utterly relax: unwind on the beach, enjoy a good book by the pool or, if some gentle activity is required, spend a lazy afternoon swimming, windsurfing or snorkelling over the nearby coral reef.

Our own childhood memories flooded back as we explored the rock pools and crevices, in front of the villa and whilst wandering along the shoreline. This largely unspoilt, wild and rugged side of Crete where scattered hamlets dot the landscape and mother nature stuns the visitor with a dramatic natural stageshow is, quite simply, a fantastic part of the world to explore.

Famous for its dazzling white sand and beautiful aquamarine sea, the shallow waters of Elafonissi Lagoon are considered to be amongst the warmest in all of Crete and the area has now been given official EU protection for its abundant natural beauty. Coral lends the main sandbar an attractive pinkish tinge and connects the beach to a little islet – seen from the air this formation resembles an atoll in the Maldives. Encouraging a post-lunch snooze on the beach (and then a languid swim to wake up?) a couple of handy tavernas serving traditional local dishes and chilled drinks can be found along the edge of the sand dunes.

Chania is the main town in the north, boasting a wonderful harbour front with plenty of shops and restaurants, or visit the stunningly scenic Gorge of Topolia which is also an annual stopover location for many bird species on their migration to and from Africa.
