Internationally renowned for history, atmosphere and breathtaking scenery, Valldemossa is one of Mallorca's most iconic towns and a location where few properties of this quality and type become available for rental. Situated in a select residential area, close to the town centre, Villa Valldemossa is a recently built town house offering that prized combination of comfortable, well-appointed accommodation that is within walking distance of all amenities (including several excellent restaurants) as well as one of the island's most celebrated landmarks.
Tastefully decorated and furnished with style, this fine property is more than a match for the expectations such a privileged location might engender.
Seekers of home comforts should not be disappointed with the design, décor or standard of equipment offered. All of the rooms are comfortable, bright and airy with most having at least one pair of French doors through which the green-tiled roof and soaring campanile of the famous Carthusian Monastery (La Cartuja) can be admired across the townscape in the near distance.
Externally the sun terrace has both open and shaded sections and it is pleasing to see a good size private pool - something not always possible in townhouses or, indeed, locations such as this where space is so often at a premium.
Home to the composer Frédéric Chopin during winter 1838-39, La Cartuja hosts daily piano recitals of his work as well as bi-weekly folk dancing performances. Originally a royal residence, the buildings, gardens and views from the terraces are amongst the island's best.
Leaving the town, a twisting mountain road takes you down to the Port of Valldemossa (8km) with its pebble shoreline and two waterside eateries while Cala Deià (12km) has a sandy beach and another beachside restaurant. Equally close and essential places to visit for so many different reasons, the towns of Deià and Sóller have oodles of olde-worlde charm and unique situations beneath the soaring peaks of the Tramuntana Mountains. Those taking time to stroll the peaceful back streets will be rewarded with a glimpse of island life, atmosphere and architecture that has remained largely unchanged for generations.
Further afield, a breathtakingly scenic coastal road meanders northwards via Lluc to Pollença and south to the white sandy beaches of Andratx. The fascinating capital city of Palma with its tree lined boulevards, bustling port, exclusive yacht club and excellent shopping is only 18km away or it is just 10 minutes downhill to the car park at the University from where the efficient Metro service will whisk you directly into the centre of the capital in 15 minutes.
